New Lease of Life for Shanthi.

Shanthi SoundararajanFormer international transgender athlete, Shanthi Soundararajan has been given admission at SAI Centre, Bangalore for NIS Diploma. Former silver medalist in Asian Games was working as a labourer in a brick kiln in Tamil Nadu to make her ends meet. SAI’s initiative has given a new lease of life to Shanthi and a leap forward in her career.



SAI opens its facilities to the Public.

Sports Authority of India (SAI) has launched the ‘Community Connect’ Scheme with the aim of  increased participation of the community and to make stadia in a hub of sports and fitness activities. In addition to the existing sports facilities available, SAI is launching facilities like Walking/Jogging Track, Cycling Track, Volleyball Courts, Cricket Nets, Billiards & Snooker, Fitness Centres, Aerobics, Yoga, Skating, Swimming Pools, Squash Courts, Chess Rooms, Bridge Rooms, Carrom etc. There will be multiple choices of both indoor and outdoor recreational and sports facilities on offer. The Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports as well as SAI welcome the people of Delhi to come and utilize these facilities.


SAI National Cycling Academy Launched.

Sports Authority of India (SAI) launched its first National Cycling academy (SAINCA) at Indira Gandhi Sports Complex. SAI has a vision to open National Sports Academy for various Disciplines. The main objective of the Academies is to identify the students with outstanding abilities and place them in an environment designed to produce sporting excellence and for this, renowned sportspersons as well as private agencies / academies/ Sports Federations are also being engaged. In this stride other proposed academies are in Football, Swimming and Shooting discipline.


SAI launches the National Swimming Academy (SAINSA).

SAI launches the National Swimming Academy (SAINSA) on 14th May 2014 at 4 pm at Dr. Syama Prasad Mookerjee Swimming Pool Complex. SAINSA was inaugurated by Mr.  Ajit Sharan, Secretary (Ministry of youth affairs and Sports) in august presence of Mr. Jiji Thomson, Director General (Sports Authority of India). Stringent selection process backed up with sports sciences has been adopted for transparency. SAINSA will also function as a high performance centre. The operation and management will be overseen by the Executive Board constituted for this purpose.
